Senior Research Associate I/II – Histology Core

Menlo Park, CA

 

General Position Summary/Purpose:

The histologist candidate is highly motivated, passionate, experienced, energetic and honest histologist who will support studies focused on evaluating mechanism and efficacy of drug candidates in gene therapy programs

 

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform histology-related activities including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining; paraffin, cryo, whole mount, and vibratome procedures
  • Hands-on immunocytochemical protocols for identification of gene products in cells and tissues
  • With competent skills in immunocytochemistry and histology, work closely with the members of the preclinical and research teams to evaluate therapeutic candidates in normal and ocular diseased models
  • Support the micrcoscopy and imaging function to enable efficient ocular drug discovery and development

 

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Histotechnologist or BS in Biological Sciences, Pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline with 1-2 years’ experience, some industry preferred
  • Tissue dissections and ex-vivo tissue culture
  • Some experience with imaging-based readouts
  • Excellent record-keeping, careful attention to detail and possess good time-management skills to successfully manage multiple priorities
  • Hands-on, bench-science expertise and understanding of antibody-labeling theory, protocols and expected results
  • Preference given to candidates experienced in ophthalmic histological techniques, but not a must
  • The ability to work independently and to collaborate with multi-disciplined group in a goal and team-oriented setting; strong interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and maintain accurate records with minimum supervision
