Early-Stage Upstream Process Engineer II

This is a technical position for a highly motivated engineer to support the Early Stage Process Development group in an industry setting. The candidate would primarily be involved in upstream applications, such as improving the current production process, cell line development, planning and execution of virus production campaigns.

  • Technical involvement in the planning and manufacturing of AAV based viral vectors for development use encompassing the entire process from thaw to final formulation
  • Independently design and implement experiments evaluating process changes with the goal of optimizing the existing upstream AAV process to enhance robustness, scale-ability, and/or yield
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to refine and scale-up our platform processes
  • Author and review technical documentation including batch records, campaign summaries, developability and risk assessments
  • Participate in and/or lead cross-functional projects while following appropriate laboratory procedures and produce competent and reproducible results to a high technical standard
  • Appropriately analyze data, interpret and present results to cross functional teams, and maintain accurate records with no supervision
  • Ensure safe workplace in compliance with the company and Environmental Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Independently solve complex technical problems of limited scope
  • Coordinate and manage day to day activities in the lab in order to adhere to the company’ s timelines and goals
  • As needed, train in and aid with downstream viral purification and characterization of final product

  • MS with 2+ years of experience or BS with 4+ years of experience in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology or related life science engineering fields
  • Hands on experience with bioreactors at small/pilot/large scale in an industry setting is required
  • Proficient in general molecular biology techniques including Western Blot, qPCR, BCA
  • Experience drafting technical documentation such as SOPs, Batch records, reports, and protocols is highly preferred
  • Detail-oriented and motivated team player who exceeds expectations in all aspects of the role
  • Hands-on experience in AAV biology and the insect cell-baculovirus expression technology platform is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
