Early-Stage Process Development Engineer II/III

Must Haves - Strong mammalian cell culture experience and molecular biology.  This role is early stage process development, the group is growing.

 

We are currently  looking to bring onboard a Process Development Associate or Engineer II/III to help support the continued development, characterization and manufacturing of novel AAV vectors for our therapies that address both our rare diseases programs as well as our Ophthalmology programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify and evaluate process changes with the goal of optimizing the existing AAV process to enhance robustness, scale-ability, and/or yield
  • Participate in and/or lead cross-functional projects centered in novel vector development, including molecular optimization of the AAV capsid, expression cassette and packaging
  • Technical involvement in the planning and manufacturing of AAV based viral vectors for development use encompassing the entire process from thaw to final formulation
  • Author and review technical documentation including batch records, developability assessments, method development and production campaign summaries
  • Follow appropriate laboratory procedures and produce competent and reproducible results to a high technical standard
  • Appropriately analyze data, interpret and present results to cross functional teams, and maintain accurate records with no supervision
  • Ensure safe workplace in compliance with the company and EHS rules and regulations
  • Independently solves complex technical problems of limited scope
  • Coordinate and manage day to day activities in the lab in order to adhere to the company’ s timelines and goals
  • Routinely mentor junior associates on scientific background and technical aspects of work

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • MS with 4+ years of experience or BS with 7+ years of experience in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology or related life science engineering fields
  • Direct experience in molecular cloning and general molecular biology techniques including ELISA, qPCR, and BCA is required
  • Strong experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Strong industry experience in molecular biology techniques including ELISA, qPCR, BCA
  • Proficiency in NGS analysis and RNAseq techniques is a significant advantage
  • Experience drafting SOPs, Batch records, reports, and protocols is required
  • Hands on experience with bioreactors at small/pilot scale is highly desirable
  • Highly motivated team player capable of leading by example and who exceeds expectations in all aspects of the role
  • Hands-on experience in the insect cell-baculovirus expression technology platform is a plus
